Lactitol dihydrate (CCRIS-6315; NSC231323; Lactit; Lactosit Miruhen; trade name: pizensy), the dihydrated form of lactitol, is a naturally occuring sweetener and gastrointestinal agent as well as an osmotic laxative used for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults. It was approved in 2020 for medical uses as an oral solution to help produce bowel movements. In addition, it is also a reduced calorie sweetener derived from natural milk sugar, and has been used in a various sweetening applications.
