CCDC178 (Coiled-Coil Domain Containing 178) is located on human chromosome 18q12.1. The CCDC178 protein is biasedly expressed in testis, fat and other tissues. Structurally, the encoded CCDC178 protein is reported to be 102011 Da in mass. The CCDC178 (also known as C18orf34) gene is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, and rat. 194 organisms have orthologs with human gene CCDC178. CCDC178 is upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues and its overexpression is correlated with pathological stage. CCDC178 is a novel candidate oncogene involved in anoikis resistance and HCC metastasis, and CCDC178 may be a new therapeutic target for HCC.
