Background:

1-Carboxycyclohexaneacetic acid is a potential impurity in commercial preparations of the antiepileptic gabapentin.¹It has also been used as a precursor in the synthesis of antagonists of the serotonin (5-HT) receptor subtype 5-HT_2A.²
