5-Bromo-3-indolyl-β-D-galactopyranoside (Bluo-Gal) is a cell-permeable chromogenic substrate for β-galactosidase.¹Upon enzymatic hydrolysis, it generates an indigo-colored precipitate that can be used to measure β-galactosidase activity.
