Background:
Carbazomycin C is a bacterial metabolite that has been found inStreptomycesand has diverse biological activities.1,2,3It is active againstS. aureus,B. anthracis,B. subtilis, andM. flavus(MICs = 50, 25, 100, and 50 µg/ml, respectively), the fungiT. asteroidesandT. mentagrophytes(MICs = 25 and 100 µg/ml, respectively), andP. falciparum(IC50= 2.1 µg/ml).2It is also active against a panel of five plant pathogenic fungi (MICs = 12.5-100 µg/ml).1Carbazomycin C is cytotoxic to MCF-7, KB, and NCI H187 cells (IC50s = 9.8, 21.4, and 8.2 µg/ml, respectively).2It also inhibits 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) activity in RBL-1 cell extracts (IC50= 1.9 µM).3
