Pyridoxine (also known as Pyridoxol; Vitamin B6), a pyridine derivative, is the 4-methanol form of vitamin B 6 which exerts antioxidant effects in cell model of Alzheimer's disease via the Nrf-2/HO-1 pathway. Pyridoxine is converted to pyridoxal phosphate which is a coenzyme for synthesis of amino acids, neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine), sphingolipids, aminolevulinic acid. Pyridoxine (also called pyridoxol, not to be confused with pyridoxal) is one form of vitamin B6. Its hydrochloride salt, pyridoxine hydrochloride, is used as a vitamin B6 dietary supplement.
