Maytansine (maitansine; NSC153858) is a cytotoxic antitubulin agent and an ansamycin antibiotic originally isolated from the Ethiopian shrub Maytenus serrata. It inhibits the assembly of microtubules by binding to tubulin at the rhizoxin binding site. It is a macrolide of the ansamycin type and can be extracted from plants of the genus Maytenus.
