Background:

CORM-3 is a water-soluble carbon monoxide-releasing molecule1.

As a CO-releasing molecule, CORM-3 can mimic the anti-allergic and anti-anaphylactic effects of heme oxygenase through the activation of the soluble guanylyl cyclase. CORM-3 is reported to have effects on cardiovascular inflammation. It reduces PMN-induced CD54 expression on EC in an in vitro model. CORM-3 also has vasoactive properties in vitro and in vivo. It shows significant vasodilatation through acting as a regulator of vessel tone and blood pressure. Besides that, CORM-3 is also a potent antimicrobial agent. It inhibits the respiration of bacterial and yeast pathogens via increasing membrane permeability and inhibiting the terminal oxidases1,2,3,4.
