Carbenoxolone sodium is a synthetic analogue of glycyrrhizin and inhibitor connexins and 11β-HSD. It is used to treat ulcers and inflammation but also exhibits other biological activities. It suppresses gap junction communication, delays onset of EAE in vivo, and decreases infarct volume in models of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion.
