Amdoxovir (AMDX; DAPD) is a novel and potent reverse transcriptase inhibitor/RTI with the potential to be used for the treatment of HIV infection. Amdoxovir may be used as an effective treatment for people who are resistant to other NRTIs (nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors) such as lamivudine, emtricitabine, zidovudine, and stavudine. Amdoxovir was shown to act synergistically with zidovudine in vitro and the combination prevents or delays the selection of thymidine analogue and K65R mutations.
