Aleglitazar (RG-1439; RO-0728804; RG1439; RO0728804) is a novel and potent agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPARα and PPARγ) with potential antidiabetic effects. As a PPAR modulator with high affinity to PPARα and PPARγ, aleglitazar can be used to improve insulin sensitivity, glucose control and lipids in people with type 2 diabetes. It is being studied in phase III clinical trials for the treatment of type II diabetes. In addition to the beneficial effects on both lipid and glucose parameters, Aleglitazar may have a therapeutic role in modifying cardiovascular risk factors and improving glycemic control in patients with T2DM.
