Description: Enoxacin (also known as AT-2266, CI919, Pd107779, NSC 629661) is an orally bioavailable, broad-spectrum antibacterial agent of the fluoroquinolone class. It acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, and is used to treat a wide variety of infections, e.g. urinary tract infections and gonorrhea. Enoxacin binds to the DNA active site and alters the breakage/reunion activity of the enzyme. Enoxacin stimulates cleavage of both relaxed and supercoiled forms of DNA in the absence of ATP.
