Description: Atomoxetine (formerly also known as LY 139603) is a potent and selective norepinephrine (NE) transporter/reuptate inhibitor with Ki of 5 nM, with 15- and 290-fold lower affinity for human 5-HT and DA transporters. In microdialysis studies in rat, atomoxetine increases extracellular levels of norepinephrine transporter in prefrontal cortex 3-fold without altering 5-HTEX levels. Atomoxetine also increases DAEX concentrations in PFC 3-fold without altering DAEX in striatum or nucleus accumbens. It was approved for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
