Mexiletine D6 hydrochloride (KOE-1173 D6 HCl) is a deuterated form of Mexiletine hydrochloride (KOE-1173 hydrochloride), which belongs to Class IB anti-arrhythmic group of medicines, and is a non-selective voltage-gated sodium channel blocker that inhibits sodium channels to reduce the inward sodium current. Mexiletine is a local anesthetic, antiarrhythmic agent (Class Ib), structurally similar to lidocaine, but orally active. Mexiletine, inhibits the inward sodium current required for the initiation and conduction of impulses, thus reducing the rate of rise of the action potential. It achieves this reduced sodium current by inhibiting sodium channels.
