Apratastat (TMI-005; XMT-1191) is a novel and potent inhibitor of metalloproteinase/tumour necrosis factor-α convertase with the potential for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. It inhibits secretion of soluble TNF-α and downregulates multiple MMPs, which is involved in cartilage destruction and bone erosions of RA.
